Despite the fact that Andy Murray played his heart out, it was not enough to bring down Roger Federer in the Australian Open. The final results were 6-3, 6-4, 7-6. Some say that Andy Murray’s old knee injury could have came back to haunt him in this game, as it looked like his performance simply was lacking.

During the first two sets Murray, the Scottish champion, struggled. Both of the first two sets were easily lost to Federer. Later on Murray started to fight back harder as he seemed to find his rhythm, but yet a few easy strokes ended up costing him. In the end, Roger Federer was able to easily bring in the win.

However, the ending of the game was one that people in Australia and all over the world will remember for a long time. During the sixth match of the final set, Murray proved that he was still stubborn as ever and refused to go down without a fight. As he took the lead the crowed went wild, but the excitement was very short lived as the next game resulted in a tie break.

Just days before, Federer had jokingly said that he knows that Murray would like to win the first Grand Slam for British tennis player in, what is it, like 150,000 years. Federer continued that the poor guy has had to go through those movements over and over again, adding that they should match up well together.

The Swiss has now won the Australian Open a total of four times. Although he’s ranked the number one British player and number three in the world, Murray has never won a Grand Slam final.
