Air New Zealand Passengers Say They Are Fine Sleeping with Strangers
Posted on: February 17th, 2010 by Emily PenbrynSo far, 13 percent of people that have been polled say that they would not mind sharing a Skycouch with a stranger they met in queue. The Skycouch, which has just recently been developed by Air New Zealand, works by converting a row of three airline seats into a bed. Thus, Skycouch is being heralded as the first lie down economy bed.
The Skycouch is also being dubbed the first major improvement in economy class travel in over 20 years. Of course, three seats must be purchased together, but the third seat will be offered at a discounted rate. Each of the seats have a cushion that folds up from beneath and arm rests that tuck away to create a flat mattress. The mattress is big enough for two adults to stretch out comfortably.
The seats on relatively cheap flights in Economy class have always lacked severely in comfort compared to seats in Business class. However, this new innovation helps to lessen this gap and can make long flights from Sydney to the UK all the more relaxing.
Despite only 13 percent of people saying that they would lie down with a complete stranger, 73 percent of people did say that they would be happy to pay the extra for a Skycouch. 60.5 percent said that they would only share with their partner, and 25 percent said that they would not pay the extra price for the third seat; they would just prefer to save their money. However, these numbers overall show that the public seems to be pretty happy about this new Skycouch development.
