It seems that backpacking tourists still hail Australia as the beat place to go on vacation. The results of a recent survey show that there has been an increase in the number of backpackers arriving in Australia. However, the best news for Australia and the Australian economy is that these backpackers, according to the survey, are spending more as well.

The survey, which was conducted by Tourism Research Australia, was investigating international visitors. It found that there was an increase of 2 percent in young travelers, and they spent around $3.5 billion. This is a very welcome boost to any country’s tourism industry, as many places are still trying to fight off the recent global recession.

In terms of tourism, Australia has done much better at keeping people interested in visiting than most other countries in the world. Although visitor numbers are down on the previous year, this year’s numbers are starting to show a slight rise of 0.2 percent. In the global market, the Middle East has been hit the worst by falling tourism. The Middle East has seen their numbers drop by 6 percent, and Europe has seen its numbers drop by 5 percent.

Although a large amount of people that come to Australia are doing so to backpack, this is not the main reason why people come to Australia. According to the survey, most tourists, 46 percent of them, still come to Australia simply to see friends and family. Of course, New Zealand provided the largest number of visitors. This was followed by the UK, the United States and China.

Australia will always be challenged by other countries that are trying to lure backpacking travelers away from their country. However, this is not something that Australia needs to worry about right now since they are still number one in terms of appealing to tourists looking to go backpacking.
