Singapore Airlines Passenger Arrested for Drunken Behavior
Posted on: March 17th, 2010 by Paul ScottReports are now coming in about an Australian man who landed himself a nice two week stay in a Singaporean jail after he threatened to open an emergency exit door on a Singapore Airlines flight. Apparently this little event happened during February of this year.
The Australian man, Dull Kegan William, age 26, was drunk and became very loud and aggressive while on flight SQ377 that was in route from Milan to Singapore on February 17th. Cabin crew had issued a warning to William, but he continue his behavior and attempt to open the Boeing 777-300’s emergency exit door about an hour prior to landing.
The cabin crew, as well as other passengers, attempted to restrain the man, but it resulted in a brawl, which was captured on video. After the flight had finally landed safely in Singapore, William was taken into custody by police and was last week found guilty of unruly behavior by Singapore’s subordinate court. Due to the charges, he will now have to face a sentence of two weeks in jail. Some reports have already suggested that the video has been leaked onto many news sites, as well as YouTube.
This story, once again, reminds airline passengers that unruly behavior is not something that the cabin crew, or police, are willing to tolerate. Although this is something that has never been taken lightly, people now deal with this matter in a much rougher way. This is mostly to help deter people from acting like this on airplanes. However, despite the risk of being fined and thrown in jail, a lot of people continue to act out of line on airplanes.
