Recently, British Airways has celebrated its 75 years of service to Australia. This celebration came with a fashion show held at the British Consul General’s residence in Sydney earlier this week. British Airways is now only one of three European carriers in the Australian market.

According to reports, the airline’s inaugural flight to Australia on April 13th, 1935 as Imperial Airways took 12 days to cover the 12,754 mile journey. Also, the cost in today’s terms was the equivalent of about 10,000GBP.

In comparison, the airline now carries more than 1.2 billion customers on its extensive global network. It also just recently launched a special anniversary fare of $1,750 Economy class Sydney to London return tickets. These fees include all taxes and surcharges. The special fare is valid for travel to November 25th and is on sale until April 27th, 2010.

The Regional Commercial Manager for British Airways Australia, Nicole Backo, said that their strong presence in Australia today is credit to the wonderful work done by all their staff, both past and present. However, the company gives credit also to their loyal customers and their industry partners.

Of course, Nicole said that this is just one of the milestones that they have achieved in their 90 year history. The launch of their new First Class just earlier this year and recent upgrades of Terminal 5 and Terminal 3 guarantee that their customers continue to enjoy the world class premium service that British Airways is known for. Ms Backo also said that British Airways would continue to invest in its Premium cabins. It is expected to deploy its new First Class to Australia later on this year.
