Tiger Airways Ranked the Worst On-Time Airline
Posted on: April 29th, 2010 by Tina LaneAccording to new government figures, Tiger Airways’ performance has dropped even further. More planes where leaving and arriving late in March. The budget airline’s on-time departures during March actually slumped to 74 percent. This is down from their already low 78.2 percent in February. These figures came from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics.
Tiger Airways has achieved the worst on-time performance results among the major Australian airlines since August of last year. Back in August of last year, Jetstar had scored the worst. The carrier’s on-time performance in March was affected by a number of factors. This includes weather, bird strikes and even issues with airline control. A spokeswoman for Tiger Airways, Vanessa Regan, said that the airline was amongst the lowest in terms of cancellations in the industry. Most of the delays lasted between 15 and 30 minutes.
During all of this, however, Qantas was able to improve its performance and achieved 87.8 percent. This is up from their 87.4 percent seen the month before. Qantas also achieved the highest on time arrivals at 87.7 percent.
Travelers wanting a prompt service were best to use Rockhampton Airport during March. This airport achieved a rate of 92.2 percent for on-time departures. Cancellations were the highest on the Brisbane to Hamilton Island and Sydney to Hamilton Island routes.
Overall there are a lot of things affecting airlines around the world, and it is easy to see why some airlines would have a low on-time arrival rate. However, most airlines are all dealing with the same problems right now, and the fact that some airlines can improve during these hard times is very impressive.
