It has just recently been announced that Jetstar Airways has confirmed that it is to develop its international network. The airline will do this by offering budget long-haul flights from a new base in Singapore.

Jetstar, which is owned by Qantas, will offer travelers a selection of destinations in Australia, North Asia and Europe. The services that will be based at Singapore’s Changi Airport, are expected to launch later this year.

The chief executive of Jetstar, Bruce Buchanan, said that Jetstar continues to grow strongly as the company continues to build its pan-Asian presence. The new hub will operate two A330-200 aircraft. It will also offer up to 200 new jobs across Jetstar’s Pan Asian Network.

Right now Jetstar operates long-haul services from Australia to destinations like Tokyo, Bali, Phuket, Honolulu, Bankgkok, and Osaka. Now, thanks to this new hub in Singapore, Jetstar will be able to offer more low-cost flights to other destinations.

A Singapore-based affiliate, Jestar Asia, currently flies to short-haul destinations from the city state. The airline is presently in talks with potential destination airports. Further announcements of finalized arrangements are expected to come up soon.

Either way, this is yet another big step for Jetstar. This low cost carrier is starting to make a name for itself in many places outside of Australia. Many airlines are trying to get into the low budget business, which puts airlines like Jetstar in good standing. This is because they are already low cost carriers, and they have already made a name for themselves.
