Jetstar Offers Cheap Airfare with a Catch
Posted on: May 21st, 2010 by Tanya PropstNormally when someone offers airfare for just 6c, it sounds like a deal that is too good to be true. In most cases that person would be right. However, right now Jestar is offering its customers cheap airfare for just 6c, and like all good offers, this one too comes with a catch.
The catch this time is that Jetstar customers need to sign up with Jetstar MasterCard to be eligible for the 6c fare sale. Up to 5000 of the 6c fares will be offered later this month as Jetstar celebrates its sixth birthday.
So signing up with a with a credit card is not all that bad right? Well this credit car comes with an annual fee of $49. There is also an annual fee for a Jetstar Platinum MasterCard of $149. Thus, over time, this cheap ticket starts looking less cheap.
The gimmick here is part of a market war being waged between airlines. Right now airlines are doing what they can to dominate the traditionally quite winter period and bring in more costumers. Airfare tickets are already at their lowest levels in history. In fact, fares are down by almost 30 percent since September.
The majority of the cheap fares will be offered for the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne routes. In an email to its members, Jetstar clearly spoke of this new promotion. It said that if people have not applied yet, there is still time to get access to this sale. They simply need to apply for a Jestar MasterCard or Jestar Platinum MasterCard.
In order for customers to even be eligible for the 6c fares, they will have to apply with the MasterCard by Midnight on May 27th. After that point, customers will lose their chance to take advantage of this deal.
