One of the biggest and most well known airlines in Australia, Qantas, said that the British Airways cabin crew strike would not affect passengers traveling between Australia and the UK as long as passengers ride with them. This was brought up because there are some Qantas flights that operate a code share service with British Airways. However, Qantas today reassured all passengers that are booked to fly to Australia and other international destinations that they will not be affected by this strike.

That being said, those flying on code share short haul services between the UK and the rest of Europe may very well be affected by the strike. Those traveling to Australia with British Airways are directed to contact the airline before they set off for the airport. Although British Airways is trying to keep as many long haul flights open as possible, there is no doubt some services will be affected by the strike.

The strikes by the British Airways cabin crew started this past Monday and will not finish until May 28th. However, after that there are more strikes that are planned to take place from May 30th to June 3rd and June 5th through the 9th.

British Airways is aiming at fly around 60,000 people per day this week and has trained some volunteers in order to fly more flights. Even nonunion members from overseas have been drafted in order to help things run more smoothly.

These strikes are continuing after talks between British Airways and the Unite leaders broke down. The union is asking for its members who participated in the strikes last March to have their travel perks reinstated. However, British Airways is not about to let that happen.
