Qantas has just recently announced at ATE 2010 plans to introduce daily A380 services from Melbourne and step up the number of flights from Sydney to Johannesburg. At first, Qantas will increase its existing two return A380 services between Melbourne and London via Singapore to five services a week after it receives delivery of its eighth A380.

The ninth and tenth A380s will increase the carrier’s Melbourne to Los Angeles service by four and then six services a week. The chief executive of Qantas, Alan Joyce, said last Monday that the Melbourne to Los Angeles route is an equally important truck route for Qantas. They have also targeted an increased frequency of A380 services to serve the market.

The airline said that it expects to take delivery of its seventh A380 in the final quarter of 2010. They hope to receive the tenth aircraft by March of 2011. The airline will also be introducing an extra Boeing 747 on its Sydney to Johannesburg route and will operate a daily schedule from September 21st of this year. South African Airways will code share on the daily services.

The airline went on to say that South Africa is a very important market for them. This goes particularly for business travel, and it is important for the airline to offer their new customers the flexibility of daily services.

In order to celebrate this new daily service, Qantas has released special fares for its Economy and Premium Economy cabins. The tickets will be given out first come, first serve. Specials are subject to terms and conditions.
