Qantas Cabin Crew Hospitalized Due to Fumes
Posted on: June 3rd, 2010 by Tanya PropstApparently reports are coming in related to three Qantas cabin crew members that have now been hospitalized after detecting strange fumes inside the plane. This event took place on a Boeing 767 from Perth on approach to Melbourne Airport just earlier this week.
The airline went on to confirm that three of its cabin crew members on flight QF476 were in the hospital. The members had detected an odd smell in the galley just 20 minutes before landing. A spokesperson for Qantas said that it was quite contained. None of the passengers ever detected anything. It was an odor that the cabin crew picked up in the galley area.
An investigation does confirm that it was a faulty oven that was the cause of the fumes. Qantas can confirm that the oven has now been replaced on the Boeing 767-300. After the oven was replaced, the aircraft was immediately return to service.
Three cabin crew members are being treated for their nausea. Most reports also claim that, as of now, the crew members have been discharged from the Melbourne hospital. The Qantas spokesperson claimed that all of them are currently resting at the crew hotel. The airline will make sure that they are fully fit before they return to duty.
Although this was just a little event that in no way effected travelers, it still has caused worry among a lot of online travel groups. These groups go on to ask questions related to how often the airline does a full check of their planes. If it is often, then how come the defective oven was missed? Some experts go on to say that these select online travel groups are overreacting to a situation that is completely under control.
