Apparently the well known budget airline, Tiger Airways, has just recently confirmed that its first service out of Avalon will take place this coming November. Upon the launch of this new route, the airline plans to base at least two aircraft at its new Melbourne base.

Right now the airline is currently flying a fleet of nine planes, with six based in Tullamarine and three in Melbourne. The airline went on to confirm that, at launch, it will be basing two brand new A320 aircraft’s at the new Avalon base.

Crawford Rix, who is the Tiger Airways Australian Managing Director, said that their first flights will depart from Avalon Airport on November 10th of this year. The inaugural flight will be en route to the Gold Coast. This is the first confirmed destination from Avalon as of now.

A further two Airbus A320 planes have been slated for its Victorian operations. However, whether these planes will be based in Tullamarrine or Avalon is not yet known. It is also not known when these two planes will be received. Tiger Airways said that these four new planes are set to be delivered, one of which was received earlier in the year. This new route also means that 200 new jobs will be created for the state.

Experts went on to say that it is nice to see airlines starting to expand again. However, they also noted that it is not shocking to see Tiger Airways as one of the airlines that started to expand its services. Ever since the economic downturn, business travelers, as well as leisure traveler have been looking for the best fare deals. Thus, budget airlines have seen their passenger traffic increasing.
