World Cup Sees Australian Fans Robbed and Assaulted
Posted on: June 28th, 2010 by Dave HumphriesRight now South Africa is not being labeled as a safe place for anyone. In fact, this place is not labeled as a safe place with or without the World Cup. Just recently a group of Australians experienced this very real danger.
Reports show that a bush tucker swag of Aussie soccer fans, who were in South Africa for the World Cup, were robbed. However, they were not just robbed, they were also tied up and assaulted at gunpoint soon after enjoying Socceroos take on Serbia.
It is currently understood that four mad Australian fans and a London-based duo returned to their digs after watching the match at approximately midnight on Thursday. It was about this time that they came across four armed men. Clues are pointing to local knowledge and an “inside job.”
The Australian soccer fans were actually attacked as the lodge manager was showing them to their rooms at the now infamous Hamilton Parks Country Lodge in Hazyview. This is located in an isolated area northeast of Johannesburg.
This lodge has had dozens of crime incidents ever since the World Cup started. South African police have not been following up fully on these crimes, according to a few media reports. Media Man and Gambling911 is currently helping to ensure that the word gets out on the track record of guests being robbed at this hotel.
One report is saying that the mother of the lodge manager, Nola Molich, said that the gun wielding bandits had been hiding around the corner as her son proceeded to welcome the Australian tourists into their quarters. After that it was pretty easy for the robbers to get all of the goods that the tourists were carrying.
