Survey Shows Young Australians Spend 10.9 Percent of Their Income on Travel
Posted on: July 9th, 2010 by Dave HumphriesAccording to a new survey, the number one aspiration of people 18 to 35 years of age in Australia is to travel overseas. In fact, 2.7 million Australians who fit into this demographic, said that they plan to travel overseas in the next three to four years. 1.6 million people in this age range are currently saving for that trip.
During the last 12 months, the respondents to this survey indicated that they have spent, on average, about $4,439 per person on travel. Young Australians estimate that their travel expenditures will increase by some 12 percent in the next 12 months. This brings the amount of money they spend per person up to $4,950.
Based on information about average salary rates, people between the ages of 18 and 35 are spending about 10.9 percent of their salaries on seeing the world. This is some very positive news for the travel industry, which is struggling to stay afloat.
When it comes to these travels, 56 percent of these Aussies do prefer to organize prepay deals. This includes such deals that are offered by Contiki. However, on the other end of the spectrum, there are about nine percent of Aussies between the ages of 18 and 35 that are not putting off any kind of payment upfront. They are coaching up as little money as possible until they arrive to their destination.
The remaining 35 percent of the the respondents did indicating that they would opt to pay for a little now and then a little bit later on. These kinds of people kind of want the best of both worlds, which is possible in this day and age.
