It now seems that Qantas has recently been testing out new technology that could see an end to a major irritation for business travelers. This technology could prevent people who are traveling with laptops the hassle of having to dig out their computers from their carry on bags.

The technology takes advantage of new multi-view X-ray machines. This provides a greatly enhanced display that is much clearer and a lot more detailed than older machines. The airline conducted a trail of this multi-view technology in Sydney, and both Qantas officials and passengers liked what they saw.

Overall, this new technology made the security process both quicker and a lot easier. It eliminated delays caused by people who forget to take out their computer ahead of time and spend a lot of time fumbling with their bags.

A spokesperson for Qantas said that, basically, people do not have to take their laptops out of the bag anymore. She also noted that this new technology fitted well with a range of initiatives recently introduced by Qantas to speed up the check-in process.

A few trials have already started in Perth on new smart cards with chip technology that will allow flyers, who have not already checked in online or by their mobile phones, to do so with an airport card reader. This would allow them to complete the process within five seconds.

It has also been noted that passengers will eventually be able to combine the smart card, which can also be used as a type of boarding pass, with electronic bag tags to check their bags at an automated bag drop. This is a process that only takes seconds.
