Steven Slater Quits JetBlue

Posted on: September 7th, 2010 by Andrew Soyer

The well known JetBlue flight attendant who grabbed America’s attention when he told off a plane full of passengers and slid down an emergency chute with a beer apparently was not fired. According to his lawyer, he just recently quit his job.

Reports show that Steven Slater left his job at JetBlue Airways on Wednesday of last week. This happened after he was suspended following the on-board antics and was charged last month. JetBlue had said just recently that Mr Slater was no longer an employee, but they would not give out any kind of details on the matter. Of course, this kind of statement made many people think that the airline had fired Mr Slater.

His lawyer went on to say that Mr Slater was still trying to work out some of the details with the Queens-based airline. However, he went on to put it very bluntly that his client was not at all fired.

Mr Slater, who is age 38, worked for JetBlue for about three years. He spent nearly 20 years in the airline industry overall. He was working Flight 1052 from Pittsburgh to John F Kennedy International Airport back on August 9. On this flight, he got into an argument with a very rude passenger. This is when Mr Slater told the people on the plane that he did not have to put up with that. He then grabbed a beer and slid down the emergency chute.

Mr Slater was later arrested and charged with criminal mischief, trespassing, and reckless endangerment. His lawyer said that a passenger’s lack of civility prompted his behavior.
