Boeing Aussie Boss says People Want to Make it to New York from Australia in Just 12 Minutes
Posted on: September 27th, 2010 by Tanya PropstAccording to the Boeing Australia boss, Ian Thomas, the Airbus invisible concept plane is a great idea, but Australian passengers are much keener to make it to New York in just 12 minutes. Mr Tomas went on to outline his vision of supersonic “scamjet” engines. These engines are made with space travel and nanotechnology.
Boeing’s biggest rival, Airbus, is in the middle of developing the ability for the fuselage of a plane to become invisible. This would give consumers who are flying on this plane a once in a lifetime experience that could only be felt on an Airbus plane. After all, this amazing design would allow travelers to look down on cities and landscapes as they fly over them.
Mr Thomas went on to tell the Australia Israel Chamber of Commerce that invisible planes and see-through planes are very interesting. However, consumers are more keen to the idea of getting to New York from Australia in just 12 minutes.
Boeing Research and Technology Australia teamed with the University of Queensland, is part of an international team that is busy developing scramjet system. The project aims to develop a system for an autonomous scramjet plane that would be able to fly at Mach 8 or the same as 8,600km/h.
Scramjet concepts will be tested at even greater speeds. In fact, they will be tested all the way up to Mach 14. However, commercial passengers will have to wait awhile before this technology is commonly used. In fact, they will have to wait until Mach 1 travel becomes the norm before they could ever think about going all the way up to Mach 14.
