Another Qantas Plane is Forced to Make an Emergency Landing
Posted on: November 8th, 2010 by Dave HumphriesIt seems like Qantas just cannot catch a break. Just recently another Qantas plane, this time a Boeing 747-400, was forced to make an emergency landing in Singapore. This is now the second plane from Qantas that has had to make an emergency landing in the past few days.
This plane, which was said to be on route to Sydney, turned back just shortly after take off from the Changi Airport. A Qantas spokeswoman said that, just shortly after take off, the captain of the plane experienced an issue with one if its engines. Despite this, the plane managed to land safely without any injuries. The latest plane to be affected was carrying some 400 passengers.
This event comes just after another Qantas plane, an Airbus A380, was forced to make an emergency landing at the same airport after one of its engines exploded. After the engine on its Airbus plane blew, Qantas went on to ground the rest of its A380’s until they could be inspected. Right now an investigation is underway to find out what caused the big blowout. Alan Joyce, who is the Qantas chief executive, said that most likely a material failure or some type of design issue was the problem here. The engine was made by Rolls Royce.
Hopefully these are problems that the airline can work out quickly. It is not good business to have planes grounded when they could be transferring passengers. However, Qantas says that passenger safety comes first, which is a good thing. Hopefully the airline will not have to deal with anymore emergency landings in near feature.
