It has been revealed that Air New Zealand is in talks with other well-known airlines around the world who would also like to use their idea of cuddle class economy seats. The airline’s first Boeing 777 aircraft that will feature these so-called cuddle seats will take off on Christmas Eve.

For those that do not know, the cuddle seats for the cuddle class are broken off into rows. Pretty much, people get to buy a row of three economy class seats together that can be converted into one large, flat space. It is a perfect place for couples to lay down and stretch out during the flight.

Of course, now these seats have grabbed global interest, according to Air New Zealand’s chief executive, Rob Fyfe. More than 30 airlines have been in contact with Air New Zealand and its seat manufacturer about this new seat idea. Right now, formal negotiations are underway with carriers in North America, Europe, and even Asia. They want to license these seats after Air New Zealand has had 18 months of exclusive use.

Reports show that their aircraft, which has 338 seats, will have 60 economy seats which can create a 20 “Skycouch” combination. This plane will be used to fly return services to Los Angeles. In April it will be used on services to London.

So how does the cuddle class work? Pretty much, when two people are traveling together, they will be given the option of buying the third seat in that row at half price, meaning that the couple will have the whole row to themselves. If they want to, they can fold out the chairs and make a nice flat area to lay on.
