Air New Zealand Finally Pulls Ad that Refers to Grandma’s Boobs
Posted on: December 22nd, 2010 by Robin WelchAlthough it may sound a bit odd, Air New Zealand has finally pulled an ad that referred to grandma’s boobs. In the ad campaign, Air New Zealand said that it is offering fares that are lower than grandma’s boobs.
The ad itself was suppose to be funny. However, Air New Zealand has finally agreed to pull the ad after a bunch of outraged locals complained about it. According to reports, people were upset after they saw a billboard that was advertising Air New Zealand’s cheap fares in this manner.
One local, Jacquetta Bell, said that this slogan was not only sexist, but it was very offensive. This is just one of the many comments that could be seen on an email campaign that was launched against the ad.
However, according to Duane Perrott, the slogan had come from a competition winner in Wellington, whose grandmother lives in Nelson. Mr Perrott went on to say that this person though it was funny, as did many others. Clearly it did not resonate with some people. Thus, the billboard will be removed shortly.
This is just yet another example of some people wearing their feelings on their sleeves. Instead of just seeing the humor in the ad, they had to cry “foul” and get it removed. The airline industry is looking for ways to be noticed. Airlines want to be the first airline that people think of when they are thinking about traveling. In order to be that “number one airline,” companies have to come up with ways to stick out to people. This ad campaign was Air New Zealand’s way of trying to stick out from among the other airlines.
