Well it now seems that Australian travelers are being urged by their government to avoid Bahrain. Apparently this news came this past Saturday after security forces in Bahrain opened fire on demonstrators due to the escalating protests against the governing regime. Since the Australian government cannot guarantee the safety of travelers to this area, they put a travel warning in place.

Kevin Rudd, who is the Foreign Minister, said that the situation in Bahrain has deteriorated badly. The government is also worrying about the developments in Libya. Overall, protests are rising up in the Middle East after the citizens of Egypt were able to bring an end to their long-term ruler just recently.

Rudd went on to say that they have some very clear reports right now regarding fatalities among the protesters. The governments in some of these Middle Eastern countries are doing all they can to keep the protestors in check. This does included opening fire on them.

He also said that the travel advisory for Bahrain now reads that all Australians should reconsider their need to travel to this area due to the unpredictable security situation. Until these clashes between protesters and government security forces come to an end, people who travel to this area may not be safe.

However, Rudd did not stop there. He has also called on the Bahrian government to respect its people’s right to demonstrate peacefully. He does not believe that opening fire on protesters is the way to go about making this situation any better.

Currently there are still some 1,000 Australians that are believed to be in this area. The Australian government is doing everything it can to get them out.
