Qantas introduce SMS messaging and e-mailing
Posted on: April 15th, 2008 by Bobby JonesQantas, Australia’s leading airline, has announced that the sending and receiving of SMS messages and e-mails will be possible on domestic flights as a result of new technology on board.
This technology was evaluated by the airline between April 2007 and January 2008. Mr John Borghetti, Qantas Executive General Manager, has revealed that “The evaluation of this new technology was a great success”. Mr Borghetti also stated that “An overwhelming majority of passengers involved in the evaluation indicated they wanted access to inflight connectivity on an ongoing basis.”
Due to the successful evaluations, Qantas intends to install this technology on many of their B767-300 and A330-200 planes this year. This modern technology has been developed to allow fliers to safely maximize their inflight time without interfering with the aircrafts systems. Voice connectivity has not yet been featured on board, but it is now possible to have a connection to family and friends while flying domestically with Qantas.
