Qantas Jet Repeats History
Posted on: May 15th, 2008 by Tina LaneDuring take off yesterday a jet from Qantas slung two tires. This was just a couple of months after an incident that was similar to this one and it involved a Qantas jet in Los Angeles.
After the tires blew off the 747-800 jet yesterday on a flight from Sydney to Canberra the flight was aborted.
The Pilots followed all of the safety procedures and ninety-two passengers that were on the flight QF805 got booked for other flights going to Canberra last night.
The Qantas spokesperson also stated that the flight crew did everything exactly right and that is the way that they were trained. The incident yesterday was referred to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and there has been no feedback on that as of today.
On March 26 a similar situation with Qantas Airlines involved Qantas 747-400 blowing out three of its tires and that was during the take-off for a flight from Los Angeles to Sydney. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau had reported that the blow out of three tires was a consequence of being fully loaded.
On March 8, 2006 there was a third tire blow out with Qantas 747 and this happened during a take-off from Singapore Airport. Throughout the last couple of years Qantas has had problems with their tires blowing out during take off but during each and every one of those tire blow outs the staff followed correct safety procedures and ensured all passengers were safe.
