Insurance Claims Show Australian Travelers Among the Weirdest in the World
Posted on: November 30th, 2009 by Andrew SoyerNew reports now show that travelers heading out of Australia are among the most likely to get travelers insurance. Well experts have now pointed out that this is good since, according to reports, some of the most bizarre things seem to happen to travelers while taking breaks away from Australia.
Some of the top insurance companies have now put together a list of some of the best things that they have heard Australian travelers try to claim. Among some of the best cases to make the list include one holidaymaker who tried to claim a broken heart after he suffered a failed romance in France. Another person attempted to claim compensation for a jet lagged pet after a long haul flight.
Despite some of these odd claims, insurance companies do not turn down all of these claims. In fact, one holidaymaker claimed that he was pickpocket by a monkey. This was one traveler from Australia that actually had his claim honored. Another person was able to win his claim after a group of gypsies stole his possessions after staging a dramatic midair rescue of a child.
However, for any Australian travelers, or any traveler for that matter, insurance companies say that they do check all claims thoroughly and even carry out their own investigations of the claims. In fact, travel insurance companies go on to tell travelers that travel insurance is something that is very important to have.
One travel insurance company reported a story of a man that broke his leg while on holiday. After some complications, the man had to be flown to London and then to Australia. If the man did not have any kind of travel insurance, then the whole trip would have set him back $82,000.
